Nish Bhutani is a digital business strategist, educator, technology founder, angel investor and advisor.  

Based in Mumbai, he runs an education and consulting business – Indiginus by GSF – specialising in digital strategies, innovation and transformation.  His passion is to clarify digital business and technology concepts – whether for executives, managers, a younger workforce or students.

Nish is advising online companies in spaces such as marketplaces, media and video, education and e-commerce. 

Nish has an MBA with Honors from Harvard University, and B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Stanford University.

Nish was most recently Global Head of Products at PCCW-owned Vuclip, a leader in video entertainment for emerging markets.  He led a global team driving the product direction of the OTT service Viu, helping establish it as a leader for Asian entertainment in Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as mobile-carrier partnered websites, in SE Asia, India, Middle East and Africa.

Nish started his career in the San Francisco Bay Area, as an engineering manager and technical lead at Oracle Corporation, where he worked on some of the earliest implementations of interactive television, pre-dating the Internet.

As SVP and Group Publisher at NASDAQ-listed CNET in San Francisco, Nish ran major online media and shopping properties such as Cnet.com, Download.com and Shopper.com.  CNET was acquired by CBS in 2008.

Nish co-founded London-based Arts Alliance Media (AAM), which established the largest high-end digital cinema network outside the US, and was a senior executive and board member at AAM-owned Lovefilm, also headquartered in the UK, which he helped grow into Europe’s largest online movie subscription service.  Lovefilm was acquired by Amazon in 2011, and became the basis for its Amazon Prime Video service in Europe.  AAM was acquired by China based Luxin-Rio in 2017.

As COO at Saffronart, India’s largest high-end auction house, he ran the company’s operations across its New York, London, Mumbai and Delhi offices.  He led Saffronart’s brand and digital transformation — including a new brand identity, a modern tech platform, and mobile apps for auctions — helping it set global records for an artwork sold in online auctions ($2.2m), and mobile records for highest bid ($1m) and sale ($235k) in any m-commerce category.  Nish also pioneered the launch of physical plus online hybrid auctions at Saffronart.

Following Saffronart, Nish was SVP of content at Myntra, where he led a 450 person team responsible for the generation and curation of digital content, including partner-content and user-generated content.

Nish is a mentor at the GSF Accelerator, and is actively engaged with several tech startups as an investor and advisor, including Flintobox, IndiaLends and Charmboard.

Nish has written a regular column, Digit Spinner, for the Mint on Sunday, teaches at the Vedica Scholars Programme for Women, and has spoken frequently at industry events in the US, UK and India.  He is a student of Hindustani classical music, a collector of Indian contemporary art, and has run several half-marathons, placing in the top 2% of all runners in Mumbai in 2015.
